Vintage Nardi Aluminum Steering Wheel
Further emails from Nardi in Italy mentioned that four spoke wheels were used on 1930's and 1940's racing and pleasure boats.
Nardi Steering Wheel frame picked up at Bronte Autojumble- $10.00
Sanding with 180 through 2000 grit emery paper
Finished aluminum frame polished with jeweler's rouge...may go back to 2000 for a bit more satin finish...
An email to "Nardi" in Italy quoted $525.00 U.S, to reface the wheel in wood...I decided to do it myself in the shop...
The first test fitting... this frame is about an inch smaller in diameter then the stock TD wheel...
Back from the machine shop...pretty well done...
Just the installation to go...
6 weeks later...
All done and installed...
Grabbed some of my lamination off cuts out of the trash and turned a matching gear shift knob....will add an aluminum ring around the bottom.
With the aluminum ring added, the shift knob is about 10 percent larger then stock ...always liked the shape and size or the original...
